Thyroxine Side Effects – Weight Loss and Diet

Thyroxine Side Effects – Weight Loss and Diet

I had low energy levels for years, and believe me I saw doctor after doctor with no success. Depression was the main question I was constantly asked “maybe you’re depressed?”, “how’s life at home?” or “it’s your diet maybe?” It mattered not how many times I told them that everything in my life was dandy, everything that was, apart from this unbearable lack of get-up-and-go that left me feeling like staying in bed every morning!

I started believing it was just me and it was something I would have to live with for the rest of my life.  One day I decided I was not going to rely on Dr after doctor telling me there was nothing wrong and decided to do a little research into the symptoms.  The more I researched, the more symptoms I realised I had were connected but connected to what?

No matter what I tried, to combat the Thyroxine Side Effects, weight loss was nigh on impossible.

I tried calorie controlled diet,  I tried low carbohydrate diets,  I tried everything.  Nothing helped me lose weight

Cold feet at night, Cold when everybody else was hot, confusion or brain fog as I’m told it’s called,  And in a routine blood pressure test ,the doctor asking me how I felt as the reading was far too low.  All the symptoms started to make me believe it was an underlying concern causing the issue.

I tried the doctor again and instead of just complaining of tiredness I gave the doctor an entire list of symptoms and eventually was diagnosed with underactive thyroid and help seemed on the horizon.

I was worried about Thyroxine side effects, but From then on, things changed for the better I’m pleased to say, initially  prescribed a low level of levothyroxine it was now time to find the level of hormone replacement I required to balance my thyroid.

After a few months I certainly felt better but I didn’t feel right.  I started to believe whereas the drugs definitely have their uses, what were Thyroxine side effects and that there were changes I could make in my life that would affect how I felt.

Diet and exercise, almost everyone knows can only be a good thing but its only good if it’s the right diet and the right exercise for me.  I read book after book, I followed diet after diet and whereas none of them made me feel worse.  Certainly none of them made me feel better.

At this time a relative in New Zealand Recommended a great book to combat Thyroxine side effects

The Natural Thyroid Diet written by a leading Australian Naturopath & Wellness Coach Louise O’Connor.

I have been following Louise’s diet plan for six months now and I have lost weight, I have loads more energy, my cold feet have gone and I can honestly say I feel great.  It was certainly the best 20 bucks that I have ever spent.

There certainly is an alternative to Thyroxine side effects, Try it yourself, you won’t look back!!

Thyroxine Side Effects | Let’s Take a look

First of all, what is Thyroxine?

Thyroxine is the core hormone created within the thyroid gland. Thyroxine has a central role in controlling numerous metabolic functions of the body. Hypothyroidism is the disorder that is the consequence of under-production of the hormone within the thyroid gland, this can be as a result of the gland being naturally underactive and / or radioiodine therapy having created under activity. You take Thyroxine to substitute the lack of the hormone that exists on such situations in order to re-establish regular metabolic activity.

Thyroxine Side Effects – How is the medication taken?

Thyroxine is released into the body slowly and should be taken as a single dose on a daily routine, typically before eating in the morning. The actual dose varies from sufferer to sufferer as it is adjusted to everyone’s distinct condition. A routine blood test allows the medical practitioner to regulate the dose as required. For many patients, a typical dose would be between 50mg to 200mg a day. Treatment is normally started at the lowest dose, maybe 25 microgram a day in mature patients and in patients with pre-existing heart conditions such as anginaangina then increased progressively if required with the aim of reducing  the risk of heart disturbances and chest pain

Thyroxine Side Effects – What can you expect?

As Thyroxine is a replacement remedy, not many side effects would be expected as long as the dosage is appropriately tailored to the needs of the individual. When the daily dose go beyond what is essentially necessary there is probability of amplified metabolic activity which can result in heart palpitations and sometimes chest pain (particularly in those with pre-existing conditions), sweating, muscle cramps, restlessness, diarrhea, headaches and  insomnia.  Nevertheless such difficulties, should they occur, will quickly respond to a decrease in dosage.

Very infrequently allergic reactions (typically skin rash) have been witnessed depending on which tablets from different suppliers are prescribed. This proposes that another ingredient found in the tablet, rather than Thyroxine, could be associated with this and a change of product will usually overcome the problems.

Other medicines which could interfere with your Thyroid management

If Thyroxine treatment is underway (or should the dose turn out to be too much) in a patient who is diabetic it’s quite possible that a requirement to increase the dose of insulin could be necessary. Likewise a dose of the blood thinning drug warfarin might require reducing in sufferers who are anti-coagulated.

Some anticonvulsants such as anti-epileptic drugs might alter the metabolism of Thyroxine through the liver, as such the amount of Thyroxine taken may require adjusting. This could also  apply when certain forms of nerve pain treated by carbamazepine (Tegretol) are being taken .

It may also be necessary to regulate the dose of Thyroxine up if you start to take the oral contraceptive pill

Common Thyroxine Side Effects

Certain side effects can be expected when you take this type of medication. They are usually experienced for a short period and they are not considered generally to be harmful as they are usually short lived. Common Thyroxine side effects are: trouble breathing, headaches, nausea, diarrhea and swellings of the tongue and mouth

Severe Thyroxine Side Effects

Certain more severe side effects may be experienced when having Thyroxine treatment. Particular side effects are sleeplessness, touchiness, temperature, severe headache, weight changes, hot flushes and sweating. These side effects are very rare and do not occur in many individuals
